Teachers

Jennifer Ameigh teaches 5th grade Math, Science, English Language Arts, and Social Studies for Onslow County Schools in Jacksonville, NC.

Porsha Bell teaches 9th through 12th grade Biology, Zoology, Earth Science for Lenoir County Public Schools in Kinston, NC.

David Caccavaro teaches 8th grade Science and Social Studies for Craven County School in New Bern, NC.

Nancy Hoffman teaches 6th and 7th grade Science and Social Studies for New Hanover County Schools in Wilmington, NC.

project staff

Dr. Kathryn Stevenson is the Primary Investigator of the project. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management at North Carolina State University.

Renee Strnad is an Environmental Educator in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University. She is also the state coordinator for the environmental education curriculum, Project Learning Tree.

Dr. Yu-Fai Leung is a Professor and Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University.

Dr. Sue Stuska is a Wildlife Biologist at Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Dr. Jessa Madosky is an Assistant Professor for Biology at the University of Tampa.

STudents & graduate assistant

Several of Jessa Madosky’s students from the University of Tampa participated in the summer-long season of data collection on the island, observing and recording the horses and visitor interactions.

Kati McArdle is the Project Coordinator. She is a graduate of the Master of Science in Natural Resources program at North Carolina State University.
